AMY Wellness Foundation, Chief Cares Foundation and the Town of Burnsville will host Commemorating the 2-Year Anniversary of Hurricane Helene at Bailey Square in downtown Burnsville.
The free event is open to the public and will bring the community together to remember those impacted by Hurricane Helene, recognize the people and organizations who stepped forward in the days and months following the storm, and reflect on the continued work of recovery across Western North Carolina.
The afternoon will include remarks from Senator Ralph Hise and Dr. Susan Mims, President and CEO of Dogwood Health Trust, as well as a message from Eric Church and Chief Cares Foundation.
The event will also feature a special presentation from the team behind the documentary Scars on the Mountain, which was filmed in Yancey County and documents the impact of Hurricane Helene and the strength of the communities affected by the storm. Students from the Mountain Heritage High School CTE Program will also be recognized for their work supporting local recovery. Since the storm, students have used their skills to build tiny homes for families impacted by Hurricane Helene, putting classroom learning into action to help their neighbors rebuild.
