Request for Proposal (RFP) through the UW Helps NC Fund, designed to support nonprofit organizations located in Western North Carolina providing critical housing-related services in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The fund will offer significant financial support to eligible agencies working to stabilize housing for individuals and families impacted by the disaster in Western NC, with a special focus on the ALICE population (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). Deadline to apply for housing rehabilitation, reconstruction or replacement through the Renew NC Single-Family Housing Program. The program will prioritize low-to-moderate income families with seniors aged 62 and older, children, and/or disabled household members impacted by Hurricane Helene in the following 29 counties: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mecklenburg (28214), Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin and Yancey. Renew NC is a program through the North Carolina Department of Commerce Division of Community Revitalization, funded by a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) grant.
Deadline to apply for disaster recovery funding through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). The FY2025 Disaster Supplemental Grant Program is available to American communities that received major disaster declarations due to hurricanes, wildfires, severe storms and flooding, tornadoes, and other natural disasters occurring in calendar years 2023 and 2024. Past Deadlines
The deadline for western North Carolinians whose employment remains lost or interrupted due to Hurricane Helene to apply for disaster unemployment assistance was April 7th. Applications may still be accepted if filed after this date but applicants will need to provide a reason as to why they are filing late. Residents can get more information or apply at des.nc.gov. The last day for benefits to be paid is March 29th.
The deadline to apply for FEMA individual assistance was April 7. FEMA individual assistance can used to pay housing, repairs, and other needs caused by Helene. disasterassistance.gov
The deadline to apply for SBA physical property disaster loans (offered to western North Carolina renters, homeowners, and business owners whose property was impacted by Hurricane Helene) was April 27th: sba.gov/disaster.

Volunteer organizations actively involved in ongoing repair and reconstruction projects from Hurricane Helene were eligible to apply for grant funding through the Volunteer Organizations Repair and Reconstruction Program, administered by the NC Division of Emergency Management. The Disaster Recovery Act (Part 1) appropriated $10 million for this program. Applications were due on May 15 by 5 p.m.
The deadline to apply for the NCDA&CS Disaster Relief Program was extended until May 19. During the application period, nursery crops, fruit-bearing trees and bushes, and specialty crops where the survival level is not immediately known, may extend their deadline another 45 days to June 18, 2025
Round 2 of the Hurricane Helene Cashflow Loan Program was made available to local governments impacted by Hurricane Helene. Local governments who received loans in round 1 were eligible to apply for round 2. The deadline to submit an intent to participate was June 6.
