On Saturday, September 27th, Hearth Glass, Birdfoot, Hot Mess, and the Beacon Network are hosting a community cookout with a resource fair, glassblowing demonstrations, poetry, and live music to mark one year since Hurricane Helene shook our community, wreaking havoc on our hearts, and devastating our hollers.
However, Helene also brought us together in powerful ways and we are grateful to be here. We do not want to call this a celebration by any means, instead we are choosing to hold space for our community and to come together for support on a day that means so many complicated things to all of us—uniquely and together.
Please join us for a day of remembrance, gratitude and community on the anniversary of Helene's devastation—September 27 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The cookout begins at 4:00 p.m. Burgers & hot dogs will be provided. The community is invited to bring a side to share if desired. Beverages will be available for purchase at Birdfoot.
More event details (such as resource fair information, music schedule and more!) to follow.
This event is sponsored in part by Hickory Nut Gap and Carolina Kettle Chips.
